Frequently asked question

It’s easy to become a Poster, and it’s always free to create a listing. A job seeker can sign up with us and list him/herself as an Employee for Hirers to find. An individual who represents an organization (such as employment agency or a company) can sign up and list their available employees.
Hirers need to fill in details of their company when they send a hiring request to you. This info helps make sure you know who to expect and decide if you want to accept a hirer’s job offer. Hirers are expected, but not required, to have a profile picture.
Signing up on Spare Staff and listing an Employee profile is completely free. When you receive a job offer and accept it, your hirer will assign rosters to you. When the hirer is ready for you to start work, they will need to activate and fund the next roster. Funds are securely held in our escrow system. Once you’ve delivered the work to the hirer’s satisfaction, the hirer will then release the payment. We will deduct a Spare Staff service fee from this payment and send you a payout. The service fee is generally 5%, to help cover the cost of running of the business.
All the reviews on Spare Staff are written by posters and hirers from our community, so any review you see is based on a hiring that a hirer had in a poster’s listing. Reviews are written when either a hirer or poster ends a hiring contract. You can find reviews about you and reviews written by you under your profile page. You can read reviews about another user under his/her public profile page.
Yes. You can create multiple profile listings for yourself in the same or different industries. This helps you to attract Hirers from different types of companies. For example: John Doe is taking a web programming course at university and also has had several work experiences in hospitality, John can create a “Website programmer developer” listing in “Web Development & Production” category to get jobs in his preferred industry, and an “Experienced restaurant, bar waiter” listing in “Hospitality & Tourism” category to get jobs in hospitality. However you should avoid spamming your listings so that your listing is seen by many hirers.

The minimum hourly rate you set for your Employee profile is completely up to you. This depends on how you think you are entitled to earn based on your existing knowledge, experience, skills, national minimum wage etc. To help you decide, you can search for comparable listings in your city or neighborhood to get an idea of wages in the industry. Keep in mind that it will not stop you from receiving higher (or lower) wage offer from hirers. The minimum hourly rate simply tells potential employers what your expectation is only.
If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe with the Hirer or at their workplace, you can decline their hiring request or end the hiring reservation. Before you’ve accepted a hiring request, you can decline the Hirer’s hiring request and it won’t negatively impact your listing’s placement in search results. If you decline many or most hiring requests, your search result placement may be negatively impacted. After you’ve accepted a hiring request, you can end it at any time. Your listing placement in search results may be negatively impacted if the Hirer is not at fault.
When you have accepted a job offer from a hirer, the hirer will need to assign rosters to you. When the hirer is ready for you to start work, they will need to activate and fund the next roster. After you have delivered the work, the hirer will need to release the payment to you before they can activate the next roster. The payment will become available in your account in 3-5 business days for withdrawal to your nominated bank account.
When hirer releases payment for a roster that you have completed, you will receive a payout which equals to the roster amount minus a service fee. The service fee is 3% that covers costs for credit card processing and associated cost to operate our platform. For example: If your hirer pays you $500 for your work, you will receive $500 – $15 = $485
